Restoration
Surveys, restitution, restoration and adaptive reuse for historic buildings.

Scope
Before intervening in a historic building, you need to listen to it. Our conservation work begins with a detailed measured survey documenting every stone and joint. Archival research, old photographs and the traces on the building itself are combined into a restitution proposal. In deciding on interventions our principle is to protect the original fabric, intervene as little as possible, and ensure that everything new is distinguishable and reversible. We run conservation board processes, material analyses and on-site work with craftsmen together.
Process
Step by step.
- 01
Measured survey
Using laser scanning and hand measurement we produce 1:50 plans, sections, elevations and material-decay analyses.
- 02
Research and restitution
From archives and building traces we draw the phases and original form of the structure.
- 03
Restoration project
We prepare the project defining interventions, repair methods and the new use.
- 04
Conservation board
We submit the project to the conservation board and revise it in response to feedback.
- 05
Works and documentation
On site we document every intervention with photographs and drawings and run sample trials with craftsmen.

Frequently asked
01What can I change in a listed building?
That depends on the building’s listing grade and board decisions. After the survey and research, we explain in detail which interventions are possible.
02How long does the board process take?
Depending on the building and the board’s workload, it can take from a few months to a year; we plan the programme around that uncertainty.
03Is modern comfort possible in a restoration?
Yes. We design heating, insulation and services so that they do not harm the building and can be removed if necessary.
04How do you set your fee?
We calculate our fees according to the building’s area, class and scope, based on the minimum fee schedule published by the Chamber of Architects. After the first meeting we prepare an itemised written proposal stating clearly what each stage covers and which deliverables each payment is tied to.
